Dry bulk material is subjected to high specific pressing forces between two counter-rotating rolls of the same diameter. Roller presses serve to compress, i.e. briquetting or compaction of fine-grained materials to form defined solid agglomerates or sheets.

Grinding rolls are used for the comminution of coars feedstock by exerting very high pressing forces.
